Six people had to be rescued after an open top tourist bus collided with a tree in London<\/a>’s Russell Square this afternoon.<\/p>\n

Photos from the scene on Bedford Way show the roof of the bus crumpled after the crash, with windows broken and metal supports pushed aside. <\/p>\n

No-one sustained injuries serious enough to require hospital treatment, butparamedics treated patients at the scene. <\/p>\n

It happened yards from the Tavistock Square bomb site, where one of the 7\/7 bombers detonated an explosive on a bus <\/a>twenty years ago.<\/p>\n

A Metropolitan Police<\/a> spokesperson said they were called at 2.37pm to the crash, which only involved one vehicle, a bus which had hit a tree. <\/p>\n

They said: ‘Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.<\/p>\n

‘Those involved sustained minor injuries. The road remains closed.’<\/p>\n

The open top style bus involved had a covered area at the front, which bore the brunt of the impact. Seats open to the air on the top deck were behind.<\/p>\n

Fire crews used specialist cutting tools to secure the roof, and free the passengers. <\/p>\n

It is not yet clear whether any of those involved in the crash were children. <\/p>\n

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said they were called at 2.35pm to the incident at the junction of the A4200 and Russell Square.<\/p>\n
