I\u2019m telling you I have no choice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;And then [Putin] goes, like, &#8220;I don\u2019t believe you.&#8221; But he believed me 10%.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Trump later says he made the exact same threat to President Xi, adding: &#8216;He thought I was crazy&#8230; we never had a problem.&#8217;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div details, only saying it was enough to deter Russia from invading Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>He has continually claimed since he left office: &#8216;If I were president, this war would have never happened&#8217; &#8211; repeating it once again at the G7 summit in Canada last month.<\/p>\n<p>Trumps inflammatory comments from the campaign trail were released by CNN after it was obtained by the authors of a book called 2024, detailing Trump&#8217;s return to the White House.<\/p>\n<p>The revelations come as Trump ripped into his Russian counterpart over stalling peace negotiations with Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>He accused his Russian counterpart\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/vladimir-putin\/\">Vladimir Putin<\/a>\u00a0of <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/07\/08\/trump-complains-putins-bulls-ukraine-peace-talks-23613703\/\">providing little but \u2018bulls***\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-player\">\n<div angry cabinet meeting outburst, Trump admitted that brokering a ceasefire for the three-year&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/russia-ukraine-conflict\/\">Russia-Ukraine war<\/a>&nbsp;has been more difficult than he anticipated.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s turned out to be tougher, but it\u2019s only tougher,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018And I will say the Ukrainians were brave, but we gave them the best equipment ever made.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>While on the other side of the world, Trump&#8217;s remarks point to <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/10\/14\/china-circling-warships-fighter-jets-around-taiwan-21789515\/\">escalating tensions towards China and Taiwan.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In October, China carried out drills around Taiwan, saying it was launching \u2018joint assaults\u2019 to practice \u2018combat readiness patrols, blockades of key ports and areas, assaults on maritime and ground targets, and the seizure of comprehensive superiority\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The war games were branded \u2018blatant provocations\u2019 by Taiwan, which said Beijing\u2019s refusal to rule out all-out war was threatening
